In light of the recent International Women’s Day celebration, we proudly announce that we will #EmbraceEquity by donating Software Development and English scholarships for up to 100 women.

If you are a woman interested in a career in tech and want to apply for a scholarship, please click here.

If you would like to donate to our scholarship campaign, please click here.

But before we get deeper into this topic, let us discuss why and what we are trying to achieve.

Equity vs. Equality

Why do we say equity and not equality? Equality means each individual or group of people is given the same resources or opportunities. Equity, on the other hand, considers that we are not all on a level playing field, and we must allocate more resources to supporting those with the least access to them to fight gender biases.

Equity gives everyone what they need to succeed, considering each individual’s starting point. Not everyone starts from the same place or has the same chances in life. That is why we focus primarily on equity, since it is an essential step in achieving full parity.

When we #EmbraceEquity, we embrace diversity and inclusion. At BairesDev, we’ve seen positive macro trends in the tech talent pool. In 2022, our “Women in Tech” report showed that female applicants in the tech sector represented an average of 41% of the total in 2020-2021, a 400% increase from 6 years prior. In January 2023, 51% of our applicants were women. The following month, the number rose to 52%, our second-highest peak in BairesDev’s history.

We know there’s still a long way to go before we see a fully inclusive workforce. At the current rate of progress in the tech sector, it will take 132 years to reach full parity. That is why we believe that access to quality education for women in tech is one of the keys to this path.

Championing a stronger female tech workforce

We believe that access to quality education is critical. That is why this donation of scholarships on Platzi, one of LatAm’s premiere learning platforms with over 1,000 courses, will be made for women interested in learning Software Development and English.

Gender inequity in the corporate world is a known issue, and we see its results every day. Initiatives to bring more women into the workforce are essential, but so is attacking the root of the problem. The way to do it is to provide equal opportunities for girls and women to access education that will give them a fair shot in the market. We can generate true equity through education by allocating the needed resources to advance women’s participation in tech.

Corporate initiatives are important, as are individual attitudes to promote real, immediate equity in our surroundings. There’s a lot that companies can do to encourage more equity, from fast-track hiring programs to supporting NPOs that provide education and qualification for women trying to enter the tech workforce. But there’s also a lot that each individual can do to help close the gender gap, wherever it may be.

The donations are tied to interactions (likes, shares, comments) in our social media channels. If we get 500 interactions, we will donate 50 scholarships, and so on, up to 100. The activation will start Tuesday, March 21st.

To apply for the scholarship, please visit https://platzi.com/becasbairesdev from March 21st to April 20th. To be eligible, the person must be a woman over 18 years old and interested in a career in technology, no matter where they are located. The training will be available in Spanish and Portuguese for one year up to the first 100 people who meet these requirements. The winners will be notified by email on May 8th.

The BairesDev Way

Above all, we value talent. We believe everyone, everywhere, is talented 𑁋 and we commit to that belief in the way we treat our people. We hire without bias. We celebrate diversity by inviting every kind of person to build with us.

BairesDev not only harnesses the power of AI to build high-performance teams and expand hiring reach far outside of major cities but also breaks barriers and embraces diversity in talent acquisition, hiring the best candidates solely based on skills, experience, and role fit, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, nationality, or any other background characteristic.

We are a remote-first/native remote company where people from all walks of life can thrive, with a corporate culture that celebrates differences. We believe remote work can be one of the key factors in generating more equity in societies at large, and especially in fighting gender inequities and inequalities.

Tech, especially in a remote work context, can help women everywhere to create fulfilling, successful career paths by widening the pool of job opportunities. But besides the talent perspective, tech can also help erase or minimize severe biases that hold back women’s educational and professional progress through advancements in AI, which may open the way for a more diverse workforce to find a place in our industry.

Let’s “show them how it’s done” and feature how we truly embrace gender equity with our work model.

We want you to join us in this mission by sharing how you #EmbraceEquity and support our tech scholarships program for women in tech in underrepresented communities.
